Kilburn Wood Section

Being asked to photograph the White Horse Wander ride for the North & East Yorkshire EGB group is great, as it’s always well attended with a variety of distances to spread the riders out and the venue is only 15 minutes away so I can grab a lay in on a Sunday morning. |

Looking at the provided route map, possible shooting locations can soon get whittled away when you consider which sections are roads and direction of the light, and the route taken by all ride distances. Local knowledge is very useful, but you also need to be aware of complacency. With this in mind I went for a walk with Helen and Harley to Check Point 1 as a possible location, but ruled this out as it was fairly enclosed. It would be fine for single riders but I would only get a clear shot of the first rider of any groups with quick glimpses of the rear enders. So decided on Kilburn woods for my first stopping point. |

Happy riders
However, Plan A soon got thrown away, as it was far more over grown than I remembered. So it was onto Plan B, a little clearing where the riders followed the track around to the left where there was a pool of light for you to ride into but as you were coming down hill and through the trees, caution seemed to be your main focus. Finally settled on Plan C which was a short cut to the top of the hill where the trees opened up and there was a little side clearing where I could get clear to the side and photograph you as you rode past. It’s always good to have options. |

I am really please If I can get around to another section, as this gives a separate set of images with different backdrops and shows off the different settings the riders have ridden through. Unfortunately, only on very rare occasions can you cover the ground to capture everyone a second time. But a big thank you to everyone who was still smiling or even felt able to put in a final spurt up the hill as I know it was a tough ride with the hills and distances. |
