Having a pre shoot with your photographer is a great way for you and them to get to know each other and how you all communicate, to see how communication will work on your big day, speed things up and get the images you are wanting in the limited time of your wedding day,
It Can also be of great help to you with possible ideas you were not aware of or thought possible, these can be discussed on the phone or in email exchanges but nothing will come across to you better than a photographic representation.
Above photos were taken from a pre wedding shoot with Sam and Sammie at Burn Hall near York., and this led to the following image at the venue on their wedding day.
The above images were of great help to me as a photographer, as we had tried similar poses a couple of times on the pre shoot, so when I came across the couple catching a few quiet moments together it was quite instinctive and easy for me to describe how I would like to photograph them.
a pre wedding shoot can also give the couple ideas for them to make their photos personal to them and not totally rely on their photographer to come up with something creative. See the following images again from the same wedding.
During the pre wedding photo shoot, I wanted to try and break the ice a little and ask the couple to lay on the ground for some shots. I had seen examples somewhere and liked the idea. this may completely depend on the people being photographed but this couple loved the photos and on the day of their wedding requested the same in the venue all dressed up, again we were all on the same page and was very quickly set up sand shot for a more relaxed and genuine expression of the joy they were sharing.
The pre wedding shoot can also get you current photos to use for your wedding invitations, or around your reception venue to be used as talking points, also a main photo for a framed mount board to be signed by guests, which you can later replace with a photo from your actual wedding day. A great keep sake.
For couples not comfortable In Front of camera, a pre shoot can be a great confidence booster ahead of their big day and help to take some pressure of them knowing that they are able to be confident that their photographer is on their wave length and can deliver what they are looking for.
Below are a few of my examples of from conception to final wedding day image,
Photographers may also be able to offer you speciialised local knowledge for you to take advantage of that you had not been aware of or thought possible during your big day. Mark and Andrea's photographer had advised them that their idea of a photo on a staircase at Sheffield registrar office was not possible, but as communication between all parties broke down, they approached me and we were able to work out a plan to get them their photo (See below). As I am from Sheffield I also gave them an idea of stopping off at a location, Norfolk Park from ceremony to reception for some personal photography.
I like this time with the couple as it can be quiet and relaxed and I can give the couple a few personal photos for them to share at a later date that have not already been taken and shared on social media by guests. On this occasion it just so happened that this place was special for the bride as she had lived here and the view with Sheffield city centre in the background resonated with the couple.
