On the way home through the trees |

All things being equal, today we will have lost an hour in bed and currently been riding out at the Durham & Teeside Tanfield ride (postponed from earlier in the season due to weather). Now house bound and isolated for the majority, I thought it would be nice to re-visit the Tanfield ride from years gone by. So I am re-posting my video from 2018, hopefully this will bring back riding memories and give you a sense of being outdoors with your horse. I will be looking to use some of this downtime to work on other ride videos where I have not had time before (including Tanfield 2019) so will look to post these out to give you an EGB ride fix that I dare say you are all missing. Please take care, stay safe and kind to each other. I look forward to seeing you all on the other side of these very strange times.
Please enjoy the video below, and don't forget to check out all the photos if you haven't already from the ride in the equestrian ride gallery on this website. |

Tanfield is back on (2018)
So not the best start to a ride season this year. The weather is certainly not playing it's part, but after the Beast from the East put pay to the original date it's all credit to the Durham & Teeside EGB group of organisers and riders to stage the ride at a later date. And what a day you picked. Although a little fresh to begin with, I have to say being out in the bright sunshine really does lift the spirits.

When I attend these rides, ideally what I am looking for (from a photography point of view) is open spaces. To try and give you and your horses a bit of space so as not spook you and also give me a chance to photograph you all individually. Tanfield proves difficult in this respect as I think I would need to travel further out into the course but then would miss the shorter distance riders. However, I am really liking the photos taken on the Tanfield Railway Path, with the spring flowers in the foreground and the tree trunks and bare branches as a background. It does become a real challenge and makes my day a little more interesting. I would like to make a quick mention to Olivia and her horse Summers Harmony. Well done on your achievements last year. A great article in the Endurance magazine highlighting a young rider entering into this sport. It was at this same ride that Olivia was taking part in the lead rein class, and in the same year competed at higher levels including 48km
This is no mean achievement in the course of a year, but congratulations must also be passed on to Catherine, Olivia's mum who without her support and encouragement would not be where she is today. All the best for 2018, to everyone.

What was really noticeable this day, was the sound of Spring on it's way. You can here on the sound track of the attached video the bird chorus. Which I have to admit I hadn't noticed on the day. On the occasional look up in between riders I saw a Red Kite which I am never ready for so this is just a grab shot but still pleasing to have seen.
I hope that everyone enjoyed the ride, and look forward to se you all at another ride soon.
Take care.
