Easter ride at Thorpe Perrow - 2019
With all the down time at the moment, I am able to work through some of the videos from last years rides. Now is the time for Thorpe Perrow, which was arranged by the Bedale and Yore Pony Club along with North & East Yorkshire EGB group.
This can be seen in the YouTube section below...….
If I am honest, not a lot of thought goes into the videos at the time of recording. I see myself more of a stills photographer and that is my main aim when I attend these events. So when I am in the field, or woods etc there can be a lot of time spent sitting/standing around waiting for the next rider or riders. It's no problem to set up and just hit record to capture you as you are passing while I concentrate on taking the photos. It's only when I get onto my computer and look through the footage that I start to see how these clips can be brought together.
The Pony club rides are great, it's wonderful to see the young riders out together in groups and gaining confidence with their horse and in themselves; also having a good time as well.
It was a beautiful day for this ride, and as you can tell from the video everyone seemed to have a good day including myself. It has been over a year since this ride took place and I can not remember recording half the stuff I got on the day. The venue for this ride is superb, I am able to leave my car at the venue and spend the entire day just walking around.
I followed the route from the venue, and captured a few of the riders 2-3 times. Where possible I tried to judge when I moved so as not to photograph them in the same location. But this is more luck than judgment. watching the clips on the video, brings across how much fun the horses and riders were having on the day, this could have been down to the weather, or the location, or the organisation; only the riders can answer that question.
Just when I thought it was all over, Robert tells me that there are just the young Easter egg hunters to come back. I didn't have to go back out too far so back out I went. My apologies if I did not capture everyone.
This just shows how much thought and effort goes into some of these rides to include and bring on everyone into the sport of endurance.
Images from this ride back in 2019 along with many others are still available from the archive ride section of my website at
Thank you for taking the time to watch and read (if you have), and hope that you are looking out for each other and staying safe. Once we start getting a sense of normality back, keep an eye out on your local EGB group website for the next available ride. Whenever that maybe.
A few website to check out when the time is right
