Welcome to another blog, this time from the Thirlby Ride held on the 1st November by the North and East Yorkshire EGB group. It was an autumnal misty start, but as the first riders started to arrive the mist gave way and as the route went above the village blue skies and a bright day ensured that a good ride was had by all. Please enjoy the short video/slide show below, and don't forget to check out all the photos from the ride in the equestrian ride gallery on this website. There are also extra photos to be viewed on my Facebook page album at the following link.

Misty morning.

There was a really good turn out for this end of season ride for the North & East Yorkshire endurance group. There was even a high number of last minute requests to join in that had to be turned away for health and safety reasons as well as availability on parking. This venue was a great option for a ride at this time of year due to the amount of road work and small tracks that were used on the various routes. The bridleways were very boggy in places so decided to stay close to the early section of the green loop.

I found a good vantage point at an early stage where I was able to get the riders on their way out with some stunning autumnal colours in the background. Then I moved further up to an area that was more open and allowed me to see riders both setting out and returning as the set off times were spread out there was a constant stream of riders. It was good to see so many taking part, lots of regular faces but still plenty of newbies which is always good to see at one of our local events. Hopefully you will have all enjoyed the ride and beautiful scenery. |

There was additional hard standing parking in a layby about half a mile from the venue for a few people to use, and there were quite a few people hacking to the venue. As this ride was the day after Halloween, a fancy dress theme was an option that a few riders took part in. As I didn't cover the short loop I didn't see many but the few that managed to do the longer distances really made the effort. I even had my own little spider crawling over my face at some point during one of my video selfies. |

There was a lot on offer for the participants of this ride, with prizes for best turned out, best condition, veteran horse and horse the judge would most like to take home. Plus raffle, hot drinks and cakes. Well that is another season complete for the North & East Yorkshire EGB group, so if you have taken part in any of the rides this year, keep an eye out on their official website http://www.endurancegbneyorkshire.co.uk for details of next years rides. From a personal point it has been great to get to so many rides this year, and would like to thank the organisers for allowing me to photograph their events and for everyone who has participated in the rides, be that as a rider, steward, gate keeper or crew member etc. for their friendliness and comments. Take care of yourselves and hope to see you next year. |
